Zennosuke Inouye immigrated to Canada in 1900 where he worked in logging, mining and realty.  From 1916 - 1919 he severed with the Canadian army oversees where he saw action at the Battle of Sommes and Vimy Ridge.  By serving in the army and receiving a disabling injury he was able to purchase 80 acres of land and in 1934 vote.  However, in 1942 he and his family were interned and property held by the Office of the Custodian.  While almost all Japanese Canadians lost their properties by the government unlawfully selling it of Mr. Inouye was able to maintain his ownership by advocating that he had proved his loyalty to Canada.  In 1946 his property was restored to him.  He is the only Japanese Canadian veteran to get his land back.

A registered-only program, and all participants are 19+. There will be mulled wine, figgy pudding served during intermissions and performances of ghost stories from the Victorian/Edwardian era, each 20-30 minutes long.

During World War II, Gordon Hirabayashi, a student at the University of Washington in Seattle, fights the U.S government’s order to forcibly remove and mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast. As he struggles to reconcile his country’s betrayal with his passionate belief in the U.S Constitution, Gordon begins a 50-year journey toward a greater understanding of America’s triumphs and a confrontation with its failures.

Let's Celebrate Together Nov. 13, 2021

Let’s Celebrate Together is an event connecting local artists from different cultural backgrounds and art forms and tasking them with respectfully combining their talents to create a cohesive, entertaining, and educational showcase. We will be recording the event in the Performance Hall at the Richmond Arts Centre, in front of a small live audience. (An audience that can include you!)
